Finally, the cedar roof I’ve been waiting 22 years for is happening.
In 1994, Dave went balls out, and put a cedar roof on this spec build we did in Toronto. It wasn’t the 48-foot wide (huge by TO standards) killer ravine lot backing onto Lytton Park I was sad to let go of – it was the roof. Forget diamonds and Birkin bags. Cedar shakes are where it’s at for this girl.

MONDAY
Cedar Roof Ontario delivered the shakes, Luke and Patrick got started on the standing seam metal areas, while Dave and Sam scrambled to prep the areas that the roofers said two weeks ago they WOULDN’T be starting with.
In other news: The master electricians, Fraser and Mike, tied up loose ends and were ready for inspection.
TUESDAY
The flat roofs were torched down (again in record high temps), the metal across the garage and master ensuite was completed, and the boys moved to the centre section.
Meanwhile Dave and Sam topped up the kitchen fireplace pad and framed it in, while Nick, another plumber from Whiteway, moved the guest ensuite along.
WEDNESDAY
Action-packed! Mark Spears and his crew knocked off the first 2 sections of roof on the front and laid more ice and water shield, then Luke and Patrick carried on with the metal with some tweaking by DB.
Ryan and Mark were back doing more duct work, Dave and Sam installed the kitchen firebox, and the plumbers (Galvin, Logan + Nick) finalized things for the afternoon inspection. The inspector gave 2 thumbs up for the plumbing, as well as the framing and electrical. BOOYAH!
THURSDAY
The roofing crew killed it on the backside, Patrick and Luke finessed the front and the Dave and Sam Show did some precautionary damage control around the front dormers knowing thunderstorms were on the way.
In between trouble-shooting throughout the day, Dave and Sam also framed and poured the foundation for the great room fireplace.
FRIDAY
The roof work kept on rolling and this is how things stood at day’s end. Sweet.

Monster news: A load of sand, cement and a mixer were delivered, ready and waiting for the stone masons to start TOMORROW!
And if that weren’t enough, having passed the plumbing inspection, Dave was able to hook up this beauty.
