Sunday, October 2 was a work day – but not at 588. Dave and I did an install in Mississauga for our favourite new client, ConMed Canada. A feature corridor showcasing employee recognition awards for outstanding performance and years of service. Fun project and happy it turned out nicely.
After putting in a long day, we were excited to get home and throw some steaks on the Bar-B. Not so fast.

Thankfully it was a quick fix. Dave just bent the handle so it could clear the stone.
On Monday, Reitzel Insulation was able to finish their job since Dave put in the final pot lights the week before. The crew came back and did the final blow in the attic.
Also on Monday, Patrick and Brock installed the final sills, and on Friday, started the brickwork on the fireplace which will eventually be painted out.
With the exterior stone complete, Dave was able to start on the ground level siding. Front, master and nearly half of the great room complete. More Maibec required. He installed the balance of the cedar breather (a bit short there too) and the corners on the remaining sides.
Check out how it all goes together. The 2nd last board with a little notch, then that board stacked on top of the 3rd board and the small strip fitting on top and BOOM.
With the siding on hold again, Dave chose to paint out the new drywalled ceilings and move the scaffolding inside (again) in preparation for the tongue and groove ceilings in the big room and master suite.
This week was also crunch time for the flooring tile selection so we scoped out a few suppliers in KW and Toronto. After much deliberation, we decided to go with the first tile we spotted a few weeks ago at Home Depot. A smooth porcelain / charcoal / 12 x 24.

However, as the saying goes, “He who hesitates is lost.” It had sold out at our Kitchener store. Thankfully Dane was kind enough to give us the rundown on which stores had stock. After some rigmarole, we managed to get half the order to come from the Waterloo location and the balance from Burlington. I have to say, the customer service at Home Depot is top drawer. Now the really hard part. Sourcing a great tile installer…
Thank you to Donna and Tom Kelly for hosting another awesome Reitzel Family Fest at their slice of Lake Huron Paradise (photo:Julie Cairns). Happy Thanksgiving to all and YAY JAYS!!!
